Joshua David, ND
Naturopathic Physician

Dr. Joshua David is a holistic family practitioner, specializing in joint rehabilitation and physical trauma/sports injury. Dr. David also practices an array of cosmetic therapies for spot fat reduction, and the reduction of wrinkles and scars.

"My basic approach is to use techniques that work with the body's innate ability to heal, given the right ingredients. I believe in science, and I also view life as a dynamic functioning unit which has multiple systems that influence the whole body."

Dr. David holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Oregon and a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine.

He is certified by the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Examiners, and holds certifications from the American College for Advancement in Medicine in EDTA and Heavy Metal Chelation, and Mesotherapy. He practices at and is the founder of the St Johns Health Center in North Portland.
 

Hyla L. Dickson, LMT
Licensed Massage Therapist

Hyla has had a long-standing interest in massage, yoga, energy work, dance/movement therapies, and sound/music for healing, all of which drew her to become a Massage Therapist. She has been practicing massage since graduating from the Moscow School of Massage in Moscow, ID in 1999. Since then, she has also studied Craniosacral Therapy, Medical Massage, and Traditional Thai Massage, as well as various classes in on-site chair massage, pregnancy massage, sound healing, and reiki, as well as Nia. She is licensed in both Oregon and Washington, and has worked in various settings, including Carson Hot Springs, the Center for Vibrant Health, and on-site for various businesses. Hyla has maintained an office at the St. Johns Health Center for the past 3 years. She will be finishing her Yoga Teacher certification, and Thai Massage certification in early 2008, and is excited to offer these new modalities to her clients.

Her massage style can be described as an intuitive blend of techniques tailored to each individual, including any or all of the following modalities: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Trigger Points, Craniosacral Therapy, Thai, and Reiki. She can range from very light to very deep, depending on the client’s needs. She strongly believes that both the client and LMT work in partnership to create a superior massage experience, both through the client’s communication of comfort level, pressure, etc…, and the LMT’s flexibility and ability to adjust accordingly. She approaches each session with an open mind, and a desire to create the best massage experience possible in the present moment.

Libby Penni Graf, LMT
Licensed Massage Therapist

Libby Penni Graf, resident of the St. John's community since March 2002, became a licensed massage therapist in May 2006. Graduating from East West College she decided to add specialties to her practice in order to offer more than a just great relaxation massage.

Upon finishing school she immediately enrolled in a five week intensive training in structural integration. Structural Integration is a form of deep tissue therapeutic massage. Clients benefit from this type of massage if they suffer from stiff neck, shoulders, tight jaw, tired knees and elbows and tense low back and hips.

Libby recently completed the first course in Manual Lymph Drainage through the Upledger Institute. Libby plans on completing all six courses and becoming certified in this modality. Manual Lymph Drainage is a great way to stimulate our lymphatic system to assist the natural detoxification of the body.

New to the St. John's Health Center, Libby also has a practice she operates out of the pearl district.
Libby has always been a strong proponent of natural health care and the power of holistic healing. She feels she offers more when she is in a position to educate and facilitate healing in others.

Betsy Platt, LAc, MAcOM
Acupuncturist

Acupuncturist Betsy Platt specializes in pain management.  She is passionate about the medicine and enthusiastic to share it with others.  She encourages questions and enjoys helping patients take part in their healing process.

Betsy earned her degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. She studied in China at the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She is nationally certified to practice acupuncture by the National Certification Commision of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She is licensed in Oregon by the Board of Medical Examiners.

Theresa Johnson, CHT
Certified Hypnotherapist

Theresa Johnson, Certified Hypnotherapist focuses her practice primarily on changework; assisting individuals in changing unwanted thoughts and behavior patterns into positive resourceful ones. Hypnotherapy addresses a variety of emotional and physical issues, specifically the thoughts and perceptions contributing to those issues. Rachel Starck, LPC has been self-employed in private practice in Salem since 2003, and is now offering individual, couples, and family counseling services at the St Johns Health Center. She works with adults, children, and adolescents. Rachel contracts with most major insurance plans and provides Employee Assistance Provider services for many companies.

Dr Leslie Nicholas brings 15 years experience in private practice and public health to her current practice at the St Johns Health Center. Dr Nicholas incorporates integrative medicine, utilizing naturopathic and western medicine to meet the needs of her patients. Kya Eckstrand, CNT
Certified Nutritionist, Certified Iridologist

Kya Eckstrand, BA, CI, NTP - As an Iridologist and Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Kya first takes a series of eye photos to give a detailed analysis of the iris as it relates to ones health.  She then performs a symptom and food journal evaluation, as well as hands-on assessments using Chapman Reflex points and other methods, to determine what organs/systems may be out of balance.  She provides an individualized therapeutic dietary protocol that meets your current needs, as well as recommending supplements that will aid in nourishing, cleansing and detoxing, rebuilding, and otherwise supporting optimal function.  She is a Certified Iridologist and Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and is a member of the International Iridology Practitioner's Association.
